A Shakespeare Miscellany: Elizabeth Kenny (lute)

With Robin Blaze (countertenor) and Dickon Tyrrell (readings). Shakespeare’s plays are filled with music and songs at every turn, some written for specific plays, and others adapted from the varied diet of songs circulating in the form of ballads and lute-song books. In a Shakespeare-inspired programme, one of Europe’s leading lute players, Elizabeth Kenny (“incandescent” - Music and Vision, “radical” - The Independent, “indecently beautiful” - Toronto Post), and countertenor Robin Blaze (a leading Purcell, Bach and Handel interpreter) take the audience through music and songs from the bard’s comedies, tragedies, sonnets and revivals. The music of Thomas Morley, John Danyel, John Dowland, Henry Lawes, Henry Purcell and many more features alongside readings by actor Dickon Tyrrell.

Please join us at 6:45pm for the pre-concert talk by Professor Tiffany Stern, who is Chair of Shakespeare and Early Modern Literature at Royal Holloway, University of London.

The PRE-CONCERT TALK at 6:45pm will be LIVE-STREAMED as well as the CONCERT from 7:30pm: jdp.st-hildas.ox.ac.uk/livestream
